At a landmark meeting, the members of TSV 1860 Munich clearly voted against investor Hasan Ismaik. After the brother of the Jordanian majority shareholder had clearly failed in his candidacy for the board of directors, a vote was also taken in Munich to terminate the cooperation agreement. According to the will of the members, the traditional club, which has crashed into the regional football league, has six months to terminate this contract. The motion was passed with an overwhelming majority.

In the next chapter between traditional club and majority owner, lawyers should now be required. If necessary, courts have to decide whether the argumentation of the application is tenable. In any case, it is clear that the nine-hour general meeting will not ease the difficult relationship between the investor and the club. Initially, the application even provided for the cooperation to be terminated immediately. A window of six months was then granted for this.

“I’ve got a headache. This application, if it is made in this way, forces us to act without having thought about whether this action makes sense,” President Robert Reisinger said, according to the media, about the termination without notice. Ismaik saved the club from bankruptcy in 2011 and since then has invested several millions in vain. Because investor Ismaik refused the club a payment of around 10 million euros, the “lions” were not allowed to play in the 3rd division this season, but had to go further down.

Reisinger is to lead the club as president until 2019. At the general meeting of the traditional club, Reisinger received 844 yes votes, 365 members voted no. The 53-year-old was temporarily appointed as the new club president at the beginning of June. He has now been officially elected to office. “I thank you for the leap of faith and hope that I can repay it,” said Reisinger after his election. He had taken over the post after the relegation from the retired Peter Cassalette.

The meeting was originally scheduled for July 2nd. However, the “lions” canceled it because the officials wanted to “present the members with a clear and understandable strategy for the future of the association and get a strong vote for this from the assembly”. At that time, the 1860 management was still in negotiations to secure the financial future of the association.

This is done for now. From a sporting point of view, Daniel Bierofka’s team is even looking good in the fourth division. The “Lions” celebrated a strong return to the Grünwalder Stadion on Friday evening with a 3-1 win over Wacker Burghausen and after two matchdays they have the perfect haul of six points to their credit. In any case, it remains exciting with the champion of 1966.
