“Marc Gasol’s case is worthy of starring in a documentary”

We started supporting the club in 2018 and have accompanied it, with great excitement, throughout its journey from LEB Plata to ACB. With this new agreement, we confirm our commitment to the team in an alliance where we all win, they receive our support and we link our brand more clearly to a team that competes in the highest category of Spanish basketball.

In the age of social networks and “influencers”, is a sports sponsorship still a good business?

We like to connect with people, we love creating links more than “impacts”, a term that is often used in advertising, and we understand that a successful sponsorship positions the brand, tells people who it is and how it is . With this alliance, we are telling everyone that we are committed to sport, health and teamwork, and at the same time, we connect with people through something as powerful as the emotions that sport evokes, especially Basketball Girona.

What are the values of the club that FIATC is based on?

Basketball Girona is an example of a job well done, a sample of how a cohesive and talented team can achieve great things based on effort without losing its identity, with humility. At FIATC we share this temperament and values. As an insurance entity whose mission is to ensure the well-being and protect people, we are aligned with the purpose of the club. In this sense, just like Básquet Girona, we understand sport as a vehicle for cohesion, for improving people and their health through initiatives such as the promotion of healthy lifestyles. All this, with a long-term vision, which takes into account sustainability and the contribution of value to society.

The two institutions started walking folded 4 years ago, still with the senior team in Silver. What brought them together then?

We believed in the Girona Basketball project and Marc Gasol since we met him. We believe he has everything it takes to build a great club, one that will go beyond the team. At Básquet Girona they believe in training, in building from the ground up and they work to generate synergies with other entities in Girona’s sports, business and social ecosystem, they have a clear vision and know how to achieve it.

What penetration does FIATC have in the Girona regions? Is the sponsorship also looking to expand the market here?

In Girona we have around 35,000 clients, individuals and companies, with our own headquarters since 1981, although we have been offering service there practically since our origins. Consequently, our bond with Girona and its people had a positive influence on our decision to sponsor the club, because, as we said, we understand that Girona Basketball is becoming a city project, a club that has generated a great enthusiasm among the people of Girona, and we wanted to be part of it. We hope that this sponsorship will allow us to strengthen the FIATC brand, not only in Girona but throughout the state thanks to our presence in the ACB.

It is a three-year, long-term agreement. Would you like to name the team as well?

Why not? What brand wouldn’t want that? But we must all touch the ground with our feet and continue to do things as we have been, step by step, with passion but with sense. And that means continuing to strengthen our ties with the club progressively, growing together.

What ceiling do you see in Marc Gasol’s project in Girona?

As I told Marc the day we presented the agreement, his case is worthy of starring in a documentary on a streaming platform. And that is now, at this moment, just with what they have achieved in the last 8 years, from the sporting side and as a club, cheering up an entire city.

What can the team aspire to? What goals has Marc Gasol sold them?

One of the traits we like most about the club and its president is his natural and humble way of doing things. In this sense, we have not been “sold” anything. In our opinion, the vision of the club and the way they are pursuing it are encouraging, they make us believe in their success. Right now, we understand that the club is focused on the immense but wonderful challenge of building a new team to compete in a higher, more demanding category. We will help you in everything we can.

Any players who have surprised you this pre-season or those who were already there last year in LEB Or?

As a spectator and partner of the club, I fully trust the team’s professionals. As far as these move me, the squad seems to combine a lot of youth with some experienced props. We hope that all this, under the direction of a genius like Aíto García Reneses on the bench, will help us form a great team that will give us a lot of joy.
