Maradona’s great-nephew, 51 years later

Hernán López Muñoz wrote his name in the history of Central Córdoba in Santiago del Estero.

Diego Maradona’s great-nephew scored three goals against Aldosivi in Ferroviario’s 3-0 victory on the 21st date of the Professional League, a record that in 103 years of life had only been given once in the Santiago club.

An overflow with a center back by González Metilli found him only at the far post, to make it 1-0 with a header in the 13th minute. In a counterattack he managed to extend the advantage, after a left-footed shot over González Metilli from outside the area, before José Devecchi left. 10′ from the end he put the final 3-0 with an open left foot, after a new clearance by González Metilli.

It took 51 years for a Central Córdoba player to invoice in triplicate in the First Division. The last time was for the 1971 National Tournament.

On November 13 of that year, by date 7, the Ferroviario defeated Chacarita 3-2 with a hattrick of Pablo Diaz on the court in Atlanta.

Díaz is one of the great idols of Central Córdoba and his relationship with the club was predestined for success due to a curious similarity: he was born on June 3, 1950, exactly 31 years after the founding of Ferroviario. He made his debut at the age of 16 and in the following season he was the league’s top scorer with 19 goals.

The legendary scorer had a spell at Atlético Tucumán, returned to Central Córdoba for the 1971 Nacional and was sold to Racing for 12 million pesos. He then went through Platense and various clubs in Santiago del Estero.

His record stood alone until today, September 26, 2022, the day Diego Maradona’s great-nephew said present.
