NEW YORK. the auction house Christie’s announced this Monday a new section dedicated to sneakers, street clothes or “streetwear” and sports-related collectibles that will be called Department X.
“It is a new section entered in this emerging space of collectingled by a team dedicated to auctions and private sales”, detailed the prestigious auction house in a statement, where, in addition, it indicates that this new department will retransmit the auctions that take place from New York online and will do “private sales throughout the year”.
Department X will be kicked off by a private sale display of two rare pairs of sneakers” titled “Ye Walks”. These focus on the “impact” of the influencer, rapper and designer Ye, formerly known as Kanye Westin the “panorama of sports design and iconography”, according to the statement.
One of Ye’s sneakers that will go on sale, Nike Donda West Air Jordan VIwas never released for public sale and there are only “four to six official pairs”.
Department X will be headed by Caitlin Donovan, who, according to Christie’shas a broad interest and knowledge of the luxury and fashion marketsspecifically for the “sneakers” or sports shoes and casual clothing.
Donovan notes in a statement that his department will have “sales that cross various genres of popular culture and collecting (music, fashion and sports history)”.
