Jonathan Gómez, the Real Sociedad player that the United States tries to take from Mexico

Jonathan Gómez leaves the Mexican National Team after the national team was left without the U-20 World Cup and the Olympic Games, however, his father affirms that there is no final

In the Mexican National Team they recognize that the 19-year-old Mexican-American Jonathan Gómez is almost lost, after the Tricolor was left out of the U-20 World Cup and the Olympic Games, but the family of the Real Sociedad player assures that the Mexican-American has not closed him the gates to Mexico.

“The race is very ephemeral, maybe it sounds trite. The player will go where the opportunities present themselves. If there is a call, you analyze it, and if later one comes from Mexico, you have already committed to the United States, you have to respect it. As long as there isn’t something final, because of the FIFA statutes you can still choose, ”says Germán Gómez, father of the Mexican-American winger who plays for Real Sociedad, after his son debuted with the United States in the Revelations Cup.

A few months ago, Mexico and the United States struggled to convince the 19-year-old player prior to the Under-20 World Cup. The team then directed by Luis Pérez was the one that ended up summoning the Real Sociedad defender, but an injury prevented him from participating in the tournament that was played in Honduras.

“There has always been contact from the Federation, there is contact with Gerardo Martino, with the directors, the contact continues. We see the present and not beyond, we don’t think about the Under 20 World Cup or a bigger team, not yet, one day at a time”, confesses Jonathan Gómez’s father.

In the Revelations Cup, Jonathan Gómez played 90 minutes with the United States and this weekend he faces Mexico, the team that also yearns for the Real Sociedad defender.

“You support your children wherever they are, your heart is with them and you have to pay attention to them,” he added.
