The Basque Government has dismissed Jon Redondo as Director of Sports. The Governing Council reported yesterday that Gorka Iturriaga, a graduate in Physical Education from IVEF-SHEE and a diploma in Advanced Studies, will replace him in the position.

Jon Redondo was mayor of Orio between 2007 and 2011, and was appointed Director of Sports in 2013, replacing Patxi Mutiloa. He is a man who has always been closely linked to sports, especially rowing.

The Oriotarra agreed in March to leave with the Department of Culture and Language Policy after his personal decision to move to the private company. «In January he celebrated ten years in the direction of Sports and had already seen the moment to close a cycle. We have handled it discreetly until now, but we have been preparing for the replacement for six months,” says Redondo, who affirms that he will continue to “help the department so that the transition is orderly.”
