JC Koriouchi Gelsenkirchen: retreat and fabulous techniques

Horst.
At the season finale of the 2nd Judo Bundesliga, JC Koriouchi Gelsenkirchen beat the judo team Holten 8:6. Mark van Dijk shines once more.

Mohsen Ghaffar is a man who works to ensure that the men’s team of the JC Koriouchi Gelsenkirchen as many fighters from their own ranks as possible. That’s why he talks about that after the 8: 6 success Judo Team Holten to the season finale 2. Judo-Bundesliga First of all, that the West German Championships are underway – the U18s on Saturday in Tub-Eickel as well as that of the U 21 on Sunday in Lunen – and the Koriouchi starters are successful. “We’re on the right track, even if it took a little longer than expected,” says the 41-year-old coach.

However, that alone is not enough. And that’s why Mohsen Ghaffar makes no secret of the fact that “we need to do more, prepare better and step up.” The coach laughs – especially because Erhan Baz standing next to him. The President of JC Koriouchi is laughing too, and he knows full well that work is coming his way. “I have to do more again!” he says after the first round of seven, in which Christian Hellinger (81 kilos), Mark van Dijk (90 kilos), Liam Herrmann (66 kilos), Thom van der Ree (60 kilos) in the golden score, i.e. in extra time, and Jasper Olthoff (71 kilos) ensured a 5:2 lead. “In the past,” he says with a grin, “one person did it all alone. The one sitting back there.” The one sitting back there is Reinhard Woelk, the founder of the Koriouchi judo club and current honorary president.

Ali Alimirzaei retires as manager of JC Koriouchi Gelsenkirchen

The fact that Erhan Baz now has to get back into the operative business of his club is because Ali Alimirzaei will no longer be available. At least not as a manager. “He will take a little break for professional reasons,” says the 52-year-old president as he presents Ali Alimirzaei with a farewell gift. And he can also rest assured that the former manager will not completely turn his back on JC Koriouchi.

“I will,” emphasizes the 46-year-old, “help Erhan and Mohsen.” Of course, to strengthen the team so that it can tackle promotion to the 1st Bundesliga in the coming season. Looking around, as this past season has not only shown, those responsible for JC Koriouchi have to look above all at the top – in heavyweight and light heavyweight, the classes above and up to 100 kilograms.

After the 5-2 lead at the break, everything looked fine, but then there was a bit of unrest because JC Koriouchi for the second sevens round alongside Dutchmen Mark van Dijk and Thom van der Ree for heavyweight Khishgee Purevsuren, the citizen of Mongolia, and thus awarded a fifth place as a foreigner. But the statutes state that a judoka who has been living in Germany for five years does not occupy any of the only four permitted places for foreigners. So Khishgee Purevsuren got his parting gift, even if it ended with a defeat against Holten’s Dutchman Max Welten. “He will,” Ali Alimirzaei declared, “return to Mongolia forever next month.”

Fabulous again: Mark van Dijk wins both fights in the 90 kg class

Because Jasper Olthoff (81 kilos), who had moved up to light middleweight, had also lost before, JC Koriouchi was only 5:4 ahead. But actually with 6:4. For a fight by Mark van Dijk, the point can be noted beforehand. He needed 52 seconds to put Robin Ellerbrock on the cross with a thigh throw (uchi-mata). “Fabulous!” Erhan Baz breathed into the microphone. He forgot that a short time later when oldtimer Axel Limberg in the light weight (66 kilos) got the decisive point for victory. With his favorite technique, the tomoe-nage, the 38-year-old beat Oberhausen’s Lars Hoffmann after just eight seconds – 7:5. Fabulous!

And then super lightweight Thom van der Ree, who won after 2:14 minutes with a thigh throw against his compatriot Janson Wong, put the lid on it. The final defeat only hurt Liam Herrmann, who had moved up to lightweight (71 kilos) and had to retire in the golden score against Denny Koppers due to an injury to his right thigh.
