“It’s not acceptable”: Thiago Silva scandalized after a banana throw during Brazil-Tunisia

“It’s a shame and it’s hard to see such images.” In the mixed zone of the Parc des Princes, the face of Thiago Silva, the captain of the Brazilian selection suddenly closed. The former Parisian, back at the Park, had just won easily against Tunisia (5-1), for the last friendly match before the World Cup. But a banana throw in the direction of the Brazilian striker of Tottenham Richarlison who was celebrating his second goal in the 19th partly ruined the evening.

“I don’t know if the anti-racism videos that we had prepared were shown on the screens,” continues Thiago Silva. But such things keep happening… Unfortunately, nothing can be changed about people’s mentality. I hope the public will be aware that this is not acceptable and that it belongs to the past. It must change. »

The Brazilian Federation reacted quickly to this incident during a match that was also briefly interrupted due to lasers being pointed at the players. “Lamentably, after an action, a banana was thrown on the lawn in the direction of Richarlison, author of the second Brazilian goal. The CBF reaffirms its position in the fight against racism and rejects any form of prejudice,” wrote the Brazilian federation (CBF) on its Twitter account.

Last week, the Brazilian team defended another of its attackers, Vinicius Junior, targeted by racist chants during a Real Madrid match at the ground of its neighbor, Atletico. Spanish justice has opened an investigation.

“These are people who do not have a good education, deplored his side Richarlison. I hope they will be punished”. Neymar, he regretted a match which had “nothing friendly”.

Coach Tite also condemned the incident: “Football does not justify everything. We need to better educate young people and punish this kind of behavior. In a stadium, not everything is allowed… Let the authorities take responsibility. »
