Is Roger Federer the greatest player of all time?

It is now official: at 41, Roger Federer announced Thursday, September 15 that he would end his career at the Laver Cup, an exhibition team tournament, organized from September 23 to 25 in London. The Swiss marked the history of his sport. But is he the greatest tennis player of all time, the “GOAT” as the Americans say (greatest of all time)?

If we go by the numbers, Rafael Nadal with 22 Grand Slam titles and Novak Djokovic with 21 are ahead of him since Federer has “only” 20 majors on the clock. But the Swiss career cannot be summed up in numbers: what also matters is the impact on his sport and beyond. And there, Federer is one of the greatest like a Michael Jordan, a Tiger Woods or a Pelé.

Wherever he went, “RF” conquered hearts because he embodied tennis, with his inimitable style, so beautiful to see. And then for those who only want numbers, Federer won 103 tournaments in his career, the second total of the Open era behind Jimmy Connors (109), ahead of Ivan Lendl (94), Nadal (92) and Djokovic (88). He played 1,526 matches, won 1,251 and lost 275.
