Is Caribbean the most difficult rival of Titans?

Sports Wednesday in ‘Currambha’. Not only does Junior play. Titanes de Barranquilla will face today, starting at 8:00 pm, at the Elías Chegwin Coliseum, their first litmus test in this edition of the Professional Basketball League. Those led by Tomás Díaz will have to play against the strong Caribbean Storm of San Andrés, one of the top contenders for the title.

The lofty victories against Tigrillos, last weekend, are now history. This team has no comfort zone. Now, the real challenge will be to clash against a better-armed island squad that wants to end Barranquilla’s hegemony in national basketball.

Titanes has grown tired of celebrating victories in the paradisiacal islands of San Andres in recent years, but the objective of their immediate rivals is to change the normal course of things. Emulate that victory (2018) at the buzzer after a triple from midfield by Joe Johnson (Warriors de San Andrés) to win the match and postpone the first star of the Barranquilleros, although they would end up getting it as a visitor, in the ultimate game.

Unlike previous seasons, the locals are not the only ones who enjoy the privilege of having an enviable payroll. Caribbean Storm has built a solid team of national players that has been reinforced in a good way with outstanding foreign players.

Mauricio Fox, Jared Corpus, Simón Granados and Fernando Lucena stand out in a combo of Colombians whose main stars are national team players Luis Almanza, Michael Jackson (he will join mid-season) and the desired by all Andrés Ibargüen. In the same way, power outsiders like Sebastian Mignani, an Argentine who recently passed through Venezuela, Adrian Boccia, who comes from Boca Juniors in Argentina, and the champion with the Titans, Josimar Ayarza. A template that instills fear and to which another foreign player could still be added, if the board so wishes.

Beyond the ability of the players on the woodwork, the key could be in the tactical war that is played from the boards. Cartagena duel between Tomás Díaz, six-time champion of Colombia, and Iván García, who is a video analyst for the Colombian national team and who will face his first start as head coach of professional basketball.
