iOS 16.1: sport invites itself into the Dynamic Island and on the locked screen

Following the score of a match live without opening a particular app is becoming possible on the iPhone. A user managed to bring up the score of a Premier League football match in the Dynamic Island of his iPhone 14 Pro. A long press on it displays additional info: team names, playing time and last played. This tracking also appears in Live Activities, i.e. new dynamic notifications on the locked screen.

To take advantage of these live scores, you must meet several conditions: have an iPhone running iOS 16.1 (this is the version that inaugurates Live Activities) and be in a country where Apple has deployed its sports services, which does not Unfortunately, this is not the case in France.

Live scores are available for baseball games in the United States, Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, Brazil, Mexico, Japan, and South Korea. They are also supported for NBA and Premier League fixtures in the US and Canada. To take advantage of it, you have to go to the Sports section of the Apple TV app and press the “Follow” button of the compatible match.

If this first case concerns the Live Activities of the Apple TV app, third-party developers will have the possibility of offering the same type of integration with their app. We hope that myCanal or Flashscore seize the ball on the leap.
