National football watcher Mohamad Kusnaeni assessing that there are risks and benefits to be had on FIFA Matchday between Indonesia vs Curacao.
Against Curacao will be a challenge for the Garuda Squad because they face a camp with a much higher level. Glancing at the FIFA rankings, Curacao is in 84th place while Indonesia is at 155th.
“Indeed, the risk against a team that is ranked far enough can be a monthly one. But I think Shin Tae Yong already knows Indonesia’s strength and can measure if Curacao’s opponent can match or not,” Kusnaeni told CNNIndonesia.com.
“In my opinion, we can balance it out because geographically, Curacao plays in North America against Canada, Haiti, and others. So it has been measured by STY,” he added.
Kusnaeni said there are four points that must be considered when a country undergoes a match on the FIFA Matchday agenda. There are at least two things that Indonesia can fulfill after facing Curacao.
“First the preparation of the nearest event, then the commercial purpose to increase revenue [PSSI]. Third, it can add experience for players with different opponents, then increase the chance to rise in the FIFA rankings,” said Kusnaeni.
On the one hand, Kusnaeni believes that the essence of the match against Curacao is that players and coaches get game evaluations. The team level that is above Indonesia is considered to be able to provide meaningful experience for the representatives of Merah Putih.
“Hoping to win is certainly normal. But for me the most important thing is that we can face opponents with a higher level because we usually play against teams with a level that is not far from ours. That is important for evaluation,” said the man who is familiarly called Bung Cus.
The Indonesian national team will face Curacao in a FIFA Matchday match. The first match will be held at the Gelora Bandung Lautan Api (GBLA) Stadium on September 24 while the second match will take place at the Pakansari Stadium, Cibinong, Bogor on September 27.
