Indonesia beats Curacao, Shin Tae Yong’s name echoes in Pakansari

No Shin Tae Yong echoed at Pakansari Stadium, Cibinong, Bogor, after Indonesian National team defeated Curacao 2-1 in the second leg of FIFA Matchday, Tuesday (27/9) night.

Indonesia took the lead thanks to goals from Dimas Drajad and Dendy Sulistyawan. This result continues the impressive report card of the previous meeting which ended 3-2 for Indonesia at the Gelora Bandung Lautan Api Stadium, Saturday (24/9).

The figure of Shin Tae Yong was hailed by the fans after the long whistle was blown by referee Xaypaseth Phongsanit from Laos. The scream of Shin Tae Yong’s name was first shouted by Ultras Garuda who was in the stands behind the goal, to be precise in the south stands.

A moment later it was the turn of the Indonesian national team supporters group in the northern stands, La Grande Indonesia, to shout the name of the South Korean coach. Even the name Shin Tae Yong was used as a yell by about 21,000 spectators in the stadium.

“Shin Tae Yong, Shin Tae Yong, Shin Tae Yong ale Ale.” Once the fans echoed the name of the 52-year-old coach.

Welcoming the shout, Shin Tae Yong walked to the center of the field while giving a round of applause. The Indonesian national team players also followed Shin Tae Yong to the center of the field.

The name Shin Tae Yong that echoed in the stadium recently sounded familiar. When passing the U-20 Indonesia national team to the 2023 U-20 Asian Cup, the former South Korean coach at the 2018 World Cup was also praised by supporters.

Against Curacao is the last match of the Indonesian national team during the FIFA Matchday international calendar for the September period. After this, the national team agenda is the 2022 AFF Cup which will take place with a home and away system in December-January.
