HSV CFO is planning a 200 million project – and the supervisory board knows nothing about it

The area next to the HSV Volksparkstadion is to be breathed into life. At least that’s what Thomas Wüstefeld’s plans envisage. The HSV CFO has big things in mind. But there are two essential questions – and Wüstefeld’s future is also in the stars.
HAccording to his own statements, SV CFO Thomas Wüstefeld is planning a million-euro project in Hamburg’s Volkspark, which will cost up to 200 million euros. As the “Hamburger Abendblatt” reported, a public park plaza for 12,000 people and a 25-story high-rise building are to be built next to the HSV Arena.
“We’ve been dealing with it for several months,” said the 53-year-old on “Project HSV 360 degrees”. And added: “We want to create more infrastructure options for the Volkspark.
However, the question arises: How can the CFO of the second division soccer team Hamburger SV, who has been asking for a multi-million dollar state guarantee for urgently needed renovation work at the Volksparkstadion for months and so far in vain, think about such a large-scale project?
Wüstefeld’s answer: He has already spoken to three potential financiers who are very interested in the project. However, he himself does not yet know whether his HSV board job will remain after the end of the year.
HSV is negotiating again with Kühne
Another problem: the area intended for the building does not belong to HSV, but to the city. According to Wüstefeld, discussions are being held with urban development, the responsible authorities and investors.
Conversely, the club, whose supervisory board was unaware of the “HSV 360 Grad” project, is currently speaking to Wüstefeld opponent Klaus-Michael Kühne. The investor made HSV a 120 million offer, which HSV rejected in an initial reaction. After Kühne had reduced his conditions, the HSV executive board had “a good conversation” with the billionaire on Wednesday. There were no concrete results yet, but the exchange is to be continued.
