The ex-ultra celebrated his birthday last Thursday and wished for a full hut at the third Bundesliga home game of the season.
As Hertha press chief Max Jung revealed before the game, Bernstein jokingly said at the internal celebration: “If fewer than 50,000 come, I’ll go home.”
In fact, there are only 40,643 fans in the stadium for the Bayer kick. President Bernstein still watches the game from the full distance – and sees a strong Hertha!
She has the best chance of scoring in the first round through Kanga in the 37th minute. The newcomer from Bern only hits the post after a Lukebakio cross from an acute angle.
Then Leverkusen takes the lead with a dream goal!

Hertha’s answer is not long in coming. Just seven minutes later, Kanga plays into the penalty area from the right. Ejuke cleverly passes the ball on, Suat Serdar just has to insert free in front of Leverkusen goalkeeper Hradecky.

74 minutes: Substitute Marco Richter (24) slams the ball into the left corner from a good twenty yards out. In the 2-0 win in Augsburg, Richter had snapped as a joker for the Berliners the week before. Sixty days after his horror diagnosis testicular tumor, he meets again.
