Havlíčková is the best junior in the world. He already wants to push himself among the adults

After returning from the US Open, Lucie Havlíčková was excited about another successful junior grand slam and advancing to the top of the world rankings.

The 17-year-old tennis player from Prague jumped to the top of the rankings thanks to her participation in the singles final, and she crowned her successful performance on the concrete courts in Flushing Meadows with a triumph in the doubles with Russian Diana Šnajderová.

She secured a wild card for the qualification of the October WTA tournament in Ostrava and now wants to play as much as possible among adults.

“I absorbed the American result. It was a successful outing. Unfortunately, the singles final (against Filipina Alexandra Ealaová) did not go as well as I would have liked, but it was still a positive week,” said Havlíčková during today’s video interview with journalists.

The 17-year-old tennis player won her third junior Grand Slam triumph this year in doubles at the US Open. In June, she won the doubles at Roland Garros. Although she is ranked 531st in the WTA rankings, today she moved to the first position among juniors.

“It’s a few hours old information, so I can’t describe it. I don’t think anything changes much. But it’s great to be the first in the world,” said Havlíčková.

“I already knew before the tournament that if it worked, it could work out. However, there were other factors. For example, Sofia Costoulas was playing, and if she had won, she would have been ahead of me. Until the end, it was not certain how it would turn out,” she said Havlíčková

After successful performances, the TK Sparta Praha player received a wild card to qualify for the Ostrava WTA Agel Open tournament. It will take place from October 3 to 9.

“This is great information for me and I thank everyone very much. Ostrava will be the first tournament after returning from America. After that, I have 60 or 25 adult tournaments planned on concrete,” she outlined.

In the future, she would like to play as many adult competitions as possible. She also wants to move up the WTA rankings by the end of the year.

“I think that in order to get to the Australian Open, I would have to move up a lot in the (adult) ranking. It is not yet as rosy as the junior one. I will have to wait for the Grand Slam qualifier, but hopefully it will work out sooner or later.” she smiled.
