Giannis Antetokounmpo calls out Warriors star Stephen Curry

Over the past decade, the Golden State Warriors have worked hard to establish themselves as one of the best teams in the business. That work has helped them win four championships in the last eight seasons, including last year when they managed to win it all after missing the playoffs in two seasons.

But while the team’s image has risen to the highest level, the players on the team have an even bigger brand. Obviously the likes of Draymond Green and Klay Thompson have become stars, but none compare to the star power that Stephen Curry has garnered.

Since entering the league, Curry has gone on to become one of the greatest players of all time. With his fourth title win this year, he proved he’s still one of the best in the league. And according to two-time Milwaukee Bucks MVP and superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, he’s the best player alive.

“Do I think I’m the best player in the world? No,” Antetokounmpo said during his press conference at Media Day in Milwaukee. “I think the best player in the world is Steph Curry to the next player.”

Curry and the Warriors clinched the title last year, dethroning Antetokounmpo and the Bucks, who had won it all year before. Because of this, Antetokounmpo believes Curry has the upper hand over the NBA.

Of course, given Curry’s dominance on the pitch, it’s not hard to imagine that he’s the best player in the world. His three-point shooting alone is enough to get him talking. However, Antetokounmpo said that the reason he believes Curry is the best is that this title should go to anyone who is at the top of the NBA.

“I think the best player in the world is the one who stands last,” said Antetokounmpo. “It’s the person who takes their team to the final, to the finish line, and helps them win the game. …that’s how I see it. I think the best player in the world is Steph Curry.”

For the past two years, Curry and Antetokounmpo have been the league’s champions and there’s a clear mutual respect between the two. Even Warriors coach Steve Kerr has said in the past that he would like to coach Antetokounmpo.

“Giannis, I’d love to coach Giannis, he’s a great player but he seems like a great person too,” Kerr told reporters from Basketball Without Borders Africa when asked which non-Warriors player he enjoys coaching the most would .

And while that might not be realistic, Curry made it clear that he also likes Antetokounmpo.

At the Golden State media day, Curry was questioned about Antetokounmpo’s comments. While he was flattered by the compliment, he admitted he felt the same way about the Greek superstar after they won the title.

“I’d say the same if you’re going up against the champions,” Curry said. “It’s part of the nature of the league. We all want to win the championship and if you look at the team that finished last and played best, I thought the same thing about him last year when he finished his run.

Will Antetokounmpo and Curry ever get a chance to play together? Probably not. But it’s clear they appreciate each other’s games.
