On Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 September, the association of merchants “Bagnols commerces” is organizing the 2nd edition of “Bagnols medieval”. Around 7,500 people are expected, hoping that the weather will help.

This weekend, Bagnols-sur-Cèze will therefore take a leap of 635 years in time. Direction 1387, when the city is just recovering from the plague epidemic. It is therefore appropriate to celebrate this with dignity. A piece of history that is reminiscent of our own time and the decline of covid-19, ” it’s a nice wink, we’re happy that this big event is taking place in Bagnols“, underlines the mayor, Jean-Yves Chapelet.

To immerse yourself in the medieval atmosphere, many events are planned throughout the city. Real medieval battles in armor will take place on Lacombe Boulevard at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. The youngest will have to find the cure for the plague during a treasure hunt in fourteen stages which starts from Place Mallet and which will make them discover the local heritage. The greediest among them have an appointment at 4 p.m. to take advantage of the candy catapult. And animal lovers can spend some time at the educational farm. At Rimbaud Park, at 3 p.m., there will also be flight shows with birds of prey, and at the same time, Martine Jarrié will make guided tours of the city during the Middle Ages (limited places).

You too can dress up for the weekend!

Visitors will be able to take a tour of the market and discover the work of 29 craftsmen, watch the troops parade and live on their period camp. The Chevaliers des Terres d’Occitanie will even give initiations to archery and Les Goliards will come from Tarascon to present their show on Saturday at 2:20 p.m. on Place Jean-Jaurès and on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. on Boulevard Lacombe. After all this, it will be time to eat some famous food in the tavern or in the city center. A medieval banquet is also planned on Saturday evening at Parc Rimbaud . «There will be a total of one hundred speakers, fifty volunteers to supervise. 200 bales of straw will be scattered around the city as well as 250 meters of pennants and six banners will adorn Place Mallet

“, describes Cédric Koppé, who is part of the organizing committee.

The program is dense and aims to attract the public to the city center and its shops. The shop managers will also put on their medieval dress to welcome visitors to their “stalls”. And if you too want to dress up, don’t hesitate to visit Dame Geneviève, who has set up shop at 46, rue de la République. It offers clothes for rent for children and adults. Its huge collection will suit all budgets.
