Trainer Didier Deschamps happy with the game French after crushing Austria 2-0. Deschamps also lauds the veteran striker’s performance Olivier Giroud.
France hosted Austria at the Stade de France, Friday (23/9/2022) at dawn WIB, to continue the UEFA Nations League. The home team dominated the game with a 55% lead with 22 attempts (6 on target).
France also made it difficult for Austria to create clear chances. Das Team only made a total of four chances, with none on target.
A pair of goals made by Kylian Mbappe and Giroud in the second half determined the victory of the Rooster squad. With this victory, France finally picked up their first win in five UEFA Nations League matches, while avoiding relegation.
“I’m very satisfied with the way we played,” Deschamps told M6 Stats Perform. “This win was important, and we did what we had to do: create a lot of chances and control the game with players who are not used to playing together.”
“We only have a little time to get ready, all the players have tried. There are many positive sides,” added the 1998 World Cup winner.
The match against Austria marked only Giroud’s third appearance since France were eliminated in the last 16 of the Euro 2020. The AC Milan forward scored one goal and provided an assist to become the oldest goalscorer in the history of the French national team at the age of 35 years 357 days.
“He scores goals, all the better for him. He is in perfect mental condition. He is involved in most of the game and attacking maneuvers as he does almost systematically,” added Deschamps.
“He was in a very, very difficult situation in recent years because of the lack of playing time in recent years, and every time he was called up to the France team he performed well. Very good for the French team.”
