Former player and coach Patrick Van Kets dies aged 55

Former football player and coach Patrick Van Kets has died at the age of 55, Sint-Truiden, the club where he played from 1989 to 1992, announced on Monday. After starting his playing career at RC Mechelen in 1983, Patrick Van Kets moved to Saint-Trond in 1989. He left the Canaries for Germinal Ekeren three years later and after a season in Kiel, he continued his career in France (Le Mans, Niort, Ajaccio, RC Paris, Red Star and Albi).

After his playing career, Patrick Van Kets became a coach, notably in charge of Porto Vecchio in France, of the Standard U21s. He was also deputy to Sint-Truiden and Waasland-Beveren.

The Le Mans club, of which Patrick Van Kets is the 2nd top scorer, indicated at the end of August that the former striker had Charcot’s disease and that he had been placed in palliative care.
