For the French, Federer is not the best tennis player in history

LTennis has lost one of its kings. Roger Federer put away his pro rackets on Friday, September 23, after a loss in the Laver Cup. With Rafael Nadal, his rival for two decades, but also his friend, they failed to beat the American pair Tiafoe-Sock. However, this did not spoil the starting pot of the Swiss. Many players cried, even those he tortured on the courts. It is the mark of a very great player. But, for some tennis fans, Roger Federer is not the best player in history. The French prefer him… Rafael Nadal, according to an Odoxa poll for Winamax and RTL.

According to this poll, the French believe that Nadal is better than Federer, with 34% of the choices expressed, against 28%. Six points therefore separate the two friends, who are however far ahead of the other players who make up the top 5. Björn Borg obtained 10% of the votes, Novak Djokovic 8% and John McEnroe 6%.

The French find Federer “elegant” and “likeable”

Beware, however. If Rafael Nadal is the number one in the hearts of the French from a purely tennis point of view, Roger Federer knew how to make everyone agree with his personality and his elegance: 93% of those polled consider the Swiss “friendly”, 90% of them find it “elegant” and, finally, 87% believe that it is close to the public.

The 1,005 individuals representative of the French population who responded to this survey also felt by a large majority (68%) that Roger Federer’s career would not have been as successful if he had not had players like Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.
