Football: Van Gaal throws World Cup hero out of the national team – FOOTBALL INTERNATIONAL

Is it the curious end of a national team career?

Holland keeper Tim Krul (34) is considered an absolute penalty killer – now it was precisely the penalties that caused his end at Oranje!

As reported by the Dutch media, national coach Louis van Gaal (71) kicked the goalkeeper out of the national team because he didn’t want to take part in special goalkeeper training.

background: The Norwich City keeper was not called up for September’s internationals but was nonetheless expected to attend extra training with his fellow goalkeepers at the KNVB campus, focusing on penalties.

But Krul declined the invitation. The result: Van Gaal no longer lets the keeper play for Holland.

Van Gaal told news site AD: “Krul called me to say he’s going to pass. I thought that was a shame because I know that he has the most penalties in the statistics.”

Then the clear announcement: “There is no future for him at Oranje because he didn’t want to come. That is the consequence of his decision.”

Krul became a Holland hero at the 2014 World Cup when van Gaal came on for penalties against Costa Rica in the quarter-finals – and the keeper actually saved the decisive penalty in the 4-3 win.

Now one thing is certain: Krul will not be able to repeat his heroic deeds at the 2022 World Cup…
