The Desterro Atlantis, team of Florianopolis Women’s Flag Football, secured fourth place in the Super Final of the Copa do Brasil, which took place over the weekend in Piedade (SP). This was the team’s first participation in the championship.
The competition had 16 teams from all over the country, which qualified in the regional stages. After the group stage, Desterro faced the Cobrarés team, current champion of the Copa do Brasil. In a close match, the little manezinhas secured victory in the last seconds.
“It was a very intense game, everyone stopped to watch. It required a lot of patience and cold blood, after all it was a match against the champions. After the victory, there were tears everywhere”, reports Leisiliê Caroline da Silva, the team’s quarterback.
In the semifinal, Desterro lost to Phoenix in overtime. The team still played for third place, but could not beat Vasco Almirantes, a team formed by the athletes of the Brazilian sports team.
“Despite the result, I felt that we competed on equal terms, at a high level. The competition showed that we made it, that all the dedication was not in vain. Next year we come back with even more desire to bring this medal to Florianópolis”, says Leisiliê.

Cristine Luri Hattori, who played in the first major competition with Desterro Atlantis, described the experience as incredible and already wants to start preparing for the next championship.
“We studied a lot and I was confident with our team, with our coaching staff, but we didn’t win the title. We played very hard and I am very proud of what we have achieved”, she says.

Desterro Atlantis was founded in 2016 by a group of friends passionate about the sport. The team currently has about 20 athletes and has already participated in competitions in the state and in the South region.
