Klaus Augenthaler hopes that Thomas Müller and Manuel Neuer will play for FC Bayern for a long time.
“I hope that Thomas Müller will continue to play here for a long time. If a role model like him ends his career at some point, he will hopefully stay connected to FC Bayern,” Augenthaler told the German Press Agency before his 65th birthday on September 26. “That also applies to Manuel Neuer. He is the world’s best goalkeeper and a face of FC Bayern.”
National goalkeeper Neuer has been playing for FC Bayern since 2011. Müller comes from the Munich youth and has been with the club since 2000. Their contracts end in the summer of 2024.
Augenthaler himself is a legend of the German soccer record champions. With FC Bayern, he was German champion seven times, won the DFB Cup three times and was in the final of the national championship cup twice. In 1990 in Italy, the former libero became world champion with the national team.
He is convinced of Julian Nagelsmann as a coach of Munich. “He fits in well with the team. Of course, it still needs time, and the engine still stutters from time to time,” said Augenthaler. “If you’re not at the top of the table with several points after just a few matchdays in the Bundesliga, there will be criticism, but that’s normal. FC Bayern are in a good position.”
