Draxler salary revealed: Benfica star Portugal’s highest-paid player – FOOTBALL INTERNATIONAL

Julian Draxler (28), who made his debut for Benfica in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Famalicao, is the highest-paid player in the Portuguese league, according to Sabado newspaper.

The 2014 world champion is said to earn 583,300 euros a month, 80 percent of which Paris Saint-Germain continues to pay, according to the report.

Draxler is on loan to Portugal’s record champions until the end of the season. The DFB star is still under contract with PSG until 2024, but with the new Paris coach Christophe Galtier he was no longer set for the first team.

For Draxler, the change is an important step in view of the football World Cup in Qatar in the winter. National coach Hansi Flick (57) had announced that he would only nominate players for the World Cup tournament who play consistently with their clubs.

That should now be the case with Benfica. Draxler after his change became known: “I fought for playing time in Paris and I think it’s the perfect club to play good football to find myself. Benfica is a great club with a great history.”

Benfica is happy about that Transfer. President Rui Costa (50) thinks highly of Draxler. The club boss in “Sabado” about the offensive star: “We wanted a player who would support the trio up front. When the opportunity arose, we hardly hesitated. We had to look at Draxler’s physical condition. It only takes a few days to get in shape and be the Draxler we all know and who is sure to be an asset to the club. It was a big coup.”

For the new Benfica coach Roger Schmidt (55), Draxler is a top player who “gives us even more flexibility overall on the offensive”. However, he did not want to draw a comparison with the commitment of Mario Götze (30) during his time at PSV Eindhoven.

“We didn’t sign Julian Draxler because it worked great with Mario Götze in Eindhoven, but because we are totally convinced of him,” said Schmidt to “kicker”. “It’s not about history repeating itself. It should always be about the content, not the people,” says the coach.
