Djokovic waves goodbye to Federer (with a day delay): “It’s an honor to know you on and off court” | Tennis

Yesterday it rained reactions from the entire tennis world to the adieu of the 41-year-old Swiss, but from the corner of Novak Djokovic it remained silent. So much so that the Serbian press started asking questions.

Today Djokovic, who replaced Federer as the longest number 1, came out with a hymn. “We can look back on over a decade of incredible moments and duels. Your career set the benchmark for what it means to excel and lead with integrity and balance.”

“It is an honor to know you on and off the court,” Djokovic continues. “I know this next chapter has wonderful things in store for you, Mirka, the children, all your loved ones and fans of Roger still have a lot to look forward to.”

Djokovic wishes Federer good luck and good health. “We look forward to celebrating your achievements and seeing you in London,” concludes the Serb, referring to the Laver Cup, where Federer will say goodbye next week and Djokovic will also be present in Team Europe.

Djokovic and Federer played against each other a total of 50 times. The Serb pulled the longest straw slightly more often (27-23) and also won their last game, two years ago in the semifinal of the Australian Open.

Djokovic won his 18th of a total of 21 Grand Slam titles. Federer concludes his career with 20 Grand Slam trophies.
