Djokovic: ″I hope to have my rivals next to me when I retire″ | Europe up to date | D.W.

The Serbian Novak Djokovic assured this Sunday (09.25.2022) that, upon seeing the withdrawal of Roger Federer, he thought about how he wants his to be and that he wishes that when this happens he will have his greatest rivals by his side.

Djokovic, who lost this day in the Laver Cup with wrist problems, spoke about whether he has thought about how he wants his retirement to be after seeing Federer’s. “I thought about it when all this happened on Friday. With all the emotions we are experiencing… I wish that when this happens I would have my biggest rivals by my side, that is my wish. When, how and where, I don’t know that anymore.” said the Serb.

“It has been a very exciting few days, because it was Roger’s farewell. We have all felt a different energy for everything he has contributed to tennis. I am very happy to have been able to be part of this Europe team” in the Laver Cup.

On the possibility of having played in doubles with Federer, as he did in Chicago 2018, Djokovic pointed out that the best thing was for him to say goodbye together with Nadal.

“I already played four years ago with him, but I think the best thing was that Nadal and him played together the last game, because their rivalry has been very special. I consider my rivalry with Rafa and with Roger special too, but his has more time than mine. I’ve enjoyed it a lot. It’s been nice for Rafa to come and play”, he explained. (EFE)
