Dimayor: Fernando Jaramillo made a final decision, details of his departure from the presidency | Colombian Soccer | Betplay League

An irreversible idea. There is no turning back in the mind of Fernando Jaramillo who has had to row against the current and in the face of incessant harsh criticism from journalists, soccer fans and the 36 Colombian Professional Soccer clubs. Perhaps it was expected news, since the possibility of a change in the leadership of DIMAYOR was already being predicted, and finally, after the meeting held on Thursday, September 8. Jaramillo reported and detailed his departure from the entity that governs Colombian tournaments.

It is no secret to anyone that since Fernando Jaramillo took the reins of the Major Division of Colombian Soccer in 2020, he has earned incessant criticism from the 36 clubs, journalists and fans who pointed him out for the saying that has become famous every time he Dimayor comes out with a controversial decision, ‘Dimayoradas’.

It is no longer just about the number of postponed matches, but specific issues such as América de Cali vs. Cortuluá with scarlet locality, but played at the Doce de Octubre Stadium, in which Fernando Jaramillo said that he did not notice that, and that he did not sees any negative factors that could influence the result. This later passed into the hands of the manager, Vladimir Cantor, who, at the request of César Guzmán, president of Patriotas, requested his resignation, and later, Jaramillo dismissed Cantor from the DImayor management.

Then, a similar case was repeated that had America as the protagonist. So that the scarlet fans could enjoy the game, La Equidad against the Caleño team was played at the El Campín Stadium, and not at Techo as originally stipulated. Perhaps the insurance fort would also have been filled with reds, but those led by Alexis García are not used to playing in the Nemesio, which made it complicated.

Months later, Fernando Jaramillo began to see that the criticism did not stop him, and that he did not have enough support. For this reason, the rumor came to light that his exit was near the Dimayor. Thursday, September 8 was the limit, as he held another meeting with the leaders of some of the 36 clubs, and the decision was irreversible.

Fernando Jaramillo made the decision to step aside, and set a date for his departure. On November 30, a new successor will arrive in the Dimayor. Jaramillo spoke with ESPN F90 where he gave details of his own decision, “I made the decision to leave on November 30, not them. I don’t want to be a stone in football’s shoe, I’ve always been respectful of opponents, they have valid reasons and I think we have to move forward. If there are a number of clubs that I don’t agree with how I’ve handled some issues, it’s best to come up with a solution. We are in the middle of the championship, there are important legal issues and then the idea is to finish the mandate”.

The president of the Dimayor explained that, “I quoted a private meeting, where there were more or less 28 or 30 clubs represented by their presidents or legal representatives. It was a cordial and productive meeting where I made a presentation of what my milestones were during these two years and basically I asked them to make the decision if they wanted me to continue or not because of what I have done with the leadership style that I have and with the mistakes. As I have told you, the one who makes the decisions makes mistakes. It is easy to oppose, to be a candidate and difficult to govern”.

He went on to say, “it was very clear to them, they continued to discuss various issues, not only if it was going to continue or not, and the important thing here is the future of football. People pass, institutions remain, and it is important that there is a union, a coherence so that the decisions that are made in the future are the right decisions in Colombian football”.

In turn, he added when he contemplated his departure, “I took it after the meeting because there was a clear difference, they did not agree. Beyond who had more or less support. That’s already happened and I don’t think it should be good to go back to the past regarding decisions that were made. The best thing is to work together for the good of Colombian football”.

He also said that whoever comes to replace him will have a complex mission in assuming the management, detailing how difficult it is to take ownership of the schedules and decisions that can be controversial, “the most difficult thing is the day-to-day management, the programming of matches, the interests behind. The decisions that were made generate that disagreement. I have a good relationship with all the entities and we try to work hand in hand. The most difficult thing was what seems to be the easiest. Thus, there will be key issues now to define who will be Fernando Jaramillo’s successor as of November 30 of the current year.
