Deportivo Cali is going through one of its most complex sports crises, where they continue without leaving the bottom of the table, with several games with defeat. The sporting level keeps them with just two wins in the last 10 months.
The coach in charge, Sergio Angulo, spoke with the program El Vbar de Caracol Radio, about the sporting moment that the club is experiencing, from the mental point of view and the state of each player, given the complex experience.
Feeling of a complicated team without results: it really is a difficult situation to explain. A team that is champion and that in 10 months has achieved five wins. I just take the equipment, the parties involved should answer that. It is difficult for the fans and the team, with the bad presentations, to continue at the bottom of the table, which is unfortunate.
State of the Cali academy, looking to the future: Andrés is a witness to the academy, coincidentally in 2017 there was a situation where I had to grab the team with five games remaining. Punctuality is important to show what they have in practices. We have to wait a couple of games and point out the paths to follow for 2023, which players will be counted on. It’s complex. They are players who train well, meet their schedules. It takes a little while to get ahead and not be marked, if they tie, leave the deconcentrations, as happened with Equity.
Moment of the campus from the emotional and mental: it is no secret to anyone that the mental, when in 10 months only five games are won, is not a minor issue. More so with what happened in Tuluá, something worse could have happened. The mental part must be worked on, without violent acts, it is complex, with what happened it is worse. We work on confidence, self-esteem. As a trainer, it is a beautiful but tough and complex career.
The mental part is definitive, for the human being to perform. You have to convince them that these are moments that are presented, some lived them at a family or sports level, they go hand in hand with football. You have to face them with courage. If they are in Cali it is because they are good, with conditions.
It is not good to see yourself last, triumphs every two months. Let them convince themselves that they are a family and if they come together, they get ahead.
Relationship with Teófilo Gutiérrez: one of the players who speaks the most, with the youngsters and the group. What I have spoken with him has left me with a great feeling.
