Commentary on the Bundesliga: Formed into an ice-cold scoop in the ice cream parlor – Sport

The Pieper family has made it their life’s work in the Münsterland town of Nordkirchen to make people happy. She runs an ice cream parlor not far from a baroque palace that has become known as the “Westphalian Versailles”. When Arminia Bielefeld became second division champion two years ago and was promoted to the Bundesliga, the Piepers gave a blue and white Arminia championship cup with vanilla ice cream and blueberry sauce and, as a bonus, an autograph from Amos Pieper for every fifth cup.

The son of the house switched from Arminia Bielefeld to Werder Bremen in the summer. As a centre-back, he cannot afford to please his opponents. The 24-year-old is developing into an ice-cold sweeper. He has just seen his fifth yellow card on matchday seven and is therefore suspended for the next game.

In reference to a Spanish central defender who has become known as quite coarse, Pieper has just been given the nickname “Sergio Amos”. In spite of this, they do not intend to offer a special yellow and red cup (mango ice cream with strawberry sauce) in the Spanish colors in the ice cream parlor in Nordkirchen.

Pieper is not the Bundesliga record holder anyway with his fifth yellow card in the seventh game. 21 years ago, footballer René Rydlewicz saw the fifth yellow card for Hansa Rostock in the fifth game of the season. There is no quicker way to pick up a yellow card suspension and no other footballer has managed to do this since. Nonetheless, Rydlewicz is a comforting example of how fair play offenses do not harm a pedagogically dedicated life. The 49-year-old is now a teacher at the Erich Kästner elementary school in Cottbus.
