The Chinese mixed doubles pair, Wang Yi Lyu/Huang Dong Ping, successfully won the Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medal after defeating Zheng Si Wei/Huang Ya Qiong at Musashino Forest Plaza, Tokyo, Friday (30/7/2021).

BOLASPORT.COM – After being away from China for six months and training in Chiang Mai, Thailand, the Chinese badminton team has finally returned home after participating in the Japan Open 2022 which ended on September 4 yesterday.

While preparing for the next tournament, Denmark Open 2022 (October 18-23), the China Badminton Association (CBA) has decided to temporarily separate the mixed doubles pair, which won gold at the Tokyo 2022 Olympics, Wang Yi Lyu/Huang Dong Ping.

Huang Dong Ping will partner with Feng Yan Zhe who is a young player born in 2000 to take part in the 2022 Denmark Open, while Wang Yi Lyu will not participate in the Super 750 tournament.

After winning the Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medal, Wang/Huang’s performance was inconsistent.

In 2022, the world-ranked pair reached the finals of the All England, Korea Masters, Asian Championships and Singapore Open.

However, they only managed to win one title at the Korea Masters by defeating their compatriots, Ou Xuan Yi/Huang Ya Qiong, 21-17, 21-17.

One of the reasons for the decline in Wang/Huang’s performance was injuries.

While commenting on the 2022 World Championships, Chinese doubles legend Gao Ling revealed that Huang Dong Ping had an elbow injury, while Wang had a back injury.

However, both of them are still competing in the midst of the injuries they feel.
