Championship kick-off date announced

The kick-off of the men’s and women’s basketball excellence division is scheduled for October 9, announced on Sunday in Rabat, the president of the Royal Moroccan Basketball Federation (FRMBB), Mustapha Aourach.

Speaking at a press conference on the sidelines of the national basketball championship draw, Aourach said the next season will be marked by several changes that could make it more competitive.

In this regard, he mentioned the abolition of pools to allow all teams to compete and be more competitive, which will positively impact the general level of the national championship.

According to him, the new format of the excellence division will be fruitful, in particular at the technical level of the participating teams, with more matches played which will force the teams to improve their level of competition.

“We have also introduced a three-game semi-final with the obligation to win two games to reach the final,” he explained, adding that the final will also be played in five games and the champion will be the team that will win three matches.

Mr. Aourach stressed that to be Moroccan basketball champion, you must now be well prepared to win the title which will be well deserved because it requires technical regularity throughout the championship.

Through the changes made, the FRMBB aims to give more credibility and consistency to the excellence division, he noted.

He said that the federal body attaches great importance to the training of young talents, noting that the championship of the different age categories will also be launched next October.

The Royal Moroccan Basketball Federation has set up a program contract with the associations to develop the training component, noted Mr. Aourach.

Regarding the regional leagues, the president of the FRMBB said that the federal body has sent members of its office to accompany these leagues in order to improve their administrative and technical level.

He also recalled the partnership with the International Basketball Federation aimed at supporting the FRMBB in the administrative and technical aspects.

Returning to the last season, he pointed out that the technical level observed was very good, as evidenced by the strong presence of the public in the halls and the intensity of the competition between the different teams.

He felt that national basketball is now on the right track after two difficult years due to the coronavirus pandemic, praising the contribution of all national basketball components to this positive result.

The President of the FRMBB also emphasized the action of the new national technical management which has succeeded, since the election of the new federal office, in setting up the national ladies and U16 selection, as well as five cycles training that covered all aspects of basketball.
