“We have an existing infrastructure, so before saying to ourselves “should we build another one”, we will see how much it would cost to maintain it, to perpetuate it”, explained Mr. Marchand on Tuesday.

Only if this is not possible will the City consider building it elsewhere, as it is “important” infrastructure.

Ten million dollars are also planned for the next few years for the maintenance of the current building.

The reflection on the construction of a new stadium is far from being started, but “everything is on the table, we will look at it and analyze it”, supported the mayor.

Residences at Victoria Park?

In doing so, he did not close the door, opened the day before by his colleague on the executive committee Jean-François Gosselin, to the possibility of developing a new stadium on the site of the old Coliseum at ExpoCité.

A year ago in the countryside, Quebec strong and proud and its leader Bruno Marchand promised instead a residential area of 800 housing units.

However, in the event that a decision was made to build a new stadium at ExpoCité, one could imagine building the residences at Victoria Park, suggested the mayor.

“I’m not telling you that we evaluated that,” he corrected himself.

“I’m just saying that there are plenty of possibilities, but we definitely need residential in Quebec. We need housing, social housing, affordable housing,” he said.

SimCity

For the mayor, time is short since the old Coliseum of Quebec is currently rented to the organization of the Festival d’été until next year.

This statement made the head of Quebec first, Claude Villeneuve, jump.

“Me, I would prefer that we have a plan for when the Colosseum will be available […] There today he talks to us about sending housing to Victoria Park […] At some point we don’t play SimCity. There is a lot of improvisation in there and I find that it lacks seriousness,” exclaimed Mr. Villeneuve in the press scrum.
