Urrutikoetxea and the defender from Bergara, a great protagonist, advance to the Masters playoffs after beating Laso and Martija, eliminated

It was the last game for one of the two couples in the current CaixaBank Masters. After not doing their homework well in the previous four, each had only one hand of cards left. This was no time for winks or deception. Lekeitio handed out a ticket to the playoffs and automatic elimination.

In that complicated situation, with the premature goodbye flying over the Santi Brouard fronton, Beñat Rezusta played his cards better than anyone. He carried the weight and responsibility of the couple because Urrutikoetxea, reluctant when it came to entering the auction, did not contribute what could be expected from a striker of his stature. The one from Zaratamo left a lot of ball to the partner, who did not care that the work accumulated. Fortunately, with the disturbing 17-18, Urrutikoetxea appeared with three play goals, among which the perfect hook of 17-20 stood out. “Finally,” they shouted from beside us.

Laso marked the pace in the opening bars. He came into play with a bounce and from the underhand with his right or a hook with his left foot to impose his rhythm, high, squeeze Rezusta and immediately seek to finish the goal against an Urrutikoetxea overcome by that march. Comfortable behind Martija, the colorados acquired an income of five goals at 10-5 and kept one of four at 12-8. Rezusta kept an ace based on rallying, resisting. And little by little it began to be glimpsed that dominance of the rally was changing hands, from Laso’s right to Rezusta’s left, who showed his back to Martija. First he was a meter behind. Later, two. In the final bars, three. That distance caused a regressive effect on Laso’s capacity for action, which also affected the material’s loss of spark. From further away, his basement went from being an offensive weapon to being an aid to his defender. The number of shots from the manomanista champion decreased, as Rezusta’s left-footed shots passed at an inconvenient height. He stopped doing damage to Bizkarreta.

From 12-8 it went to 13-15, at which point the Bergara defender made his first and only mistake in the rally by not being able to get a ball aimed at the left wall. At 10-5 he had left Laso’s serve without returning. Those two failures didn’t diminish Rezusta’s strength.

If the match hardened it was due to a lack and a tactical determination by Urrutikoetxea. He didn’t hit the hook and he didn’t hit a single volley in almost an hour and a quarter of a game. He preferred to join in the task of harassing Martija, who lacked right to not see himself so subdued.

With 14-17 in favor, Mikel Urrutikoetxea missed a hook at will inside draw one that gave Laso and Martija life again. They got close twice: 16-17 and 17-18, the product of another two walls with which the manomanista champion punished the defense of the rival striker. Everything was open again and the only runner present sang red again. However, Rezusta followed suit and finally resolved Urrutikoetxea.

Tied on one point, this victory places Urrutikoetxea and Rezusta fifth and in the playoff for the best result in the direct duel. After a long time, Laso falls to the first change in an important tournament.
