Ariel Jurado was chosen the International Pitcher of the Week in Triple A

In his first start Tuesday, the Aguadulce, Panama, retired the first eight batters he faced, before giving up an infield single to Lorenzo Cedrola that deflected off his glove and missed Michael Helman at second base. . Only one other batter would make it to the start, when he walked Stephen Piscotty with one out in the fifth inning. Piscotty was then erased after he was doubled up by Elliot Soto after making a sliding catch along the left field line. Jurado faced one over the minimum, earning him his first win of the season in the Saints’ 8-1 win.

On Sunday, Jurado struggled in the first inning, throwing 39 pitches. He was able to escape the frame with just an unearned run across home plate. After facing seven batters in the first inning, Jurado managed to face the minimum from the second inning to the sixth. He allowed a leadoff single in the fourth to Cristian Santana, who was erased on a double play late in the inning.

After throwing 39 pitches in the first inning, Jurado offered just 45 more pitches in the next five innings. He earned his second win of the year in the game, which the Saints took 3-1.

The former Major Leaguer with the Texas Rangers is just the fourth Saints pitcher to win consecutive starts this season.
