Archery, 60th Italian outdoor championship, competing from 26 to 28 August

From the 26th to the 28th of August Oderzo (Tv) will be the stage of the most significant and prestigious event for archery, the most anticipated and followed federal event at national level, which will see almost 700 archers on the shooting line, from the youth classes to the masters, passing through all the blues of the Olympic and compound national team. The three-day competition will be opened by the celebratory evening for the 60th anniversary of the Fitarco, founded on December 17, 1961, the celebration postponed on this occasion due to Covid-19.

As already happened in the previous Italian Outdoor Championship already organized in Oderzo in 2017, all the competitions will be held at the Opitergium Municipal Stadium, while the finals on Sunday will have an exceptional stage such as Piazza Grande, the beautiful square of Oderzo where the ” Torresin ”, a monument that characterizes the city.


The evening of Friday 26 August will be a particularly important moment for the Federation: after the celebration of the fortieth anniversary in Grosseto, the fiftieth anniversary celebrated in Rome, it is now the turn of the province of Treviso to host the sixtieth anniversary that will involve the whole Fitarco world, from athletes to technicians, from the Federal Council to the Regional Committees, from the presidents of companies to the top executives of the world of sport and institutions, from military sports groups to all the collaborators and partners of the Federation.
The gala evening will take place at Villa Foscarini – Cormaro, in the locality of Gorga al Monticano, also in the Treviso province. So not only Oderzo to remember the 60 births of the Fitarco but also this small town, which, like Oderzo, represented, in Roman times, one of the most important centers in north-eastern Italy.


The organization of the Championship was entrusted by the Federation to the “home” club, Arcieri del Torresin, already involved in the Championship hosted in 2017, which enjoys the support of the FITARCO Veneto Regional Committee, the patronage of the Municipality of Oderzo, Province of Treviso and the Veneto Region.


At the Italian Targa Championship in Oderzo, archers belonging to the boys, students, juniors, seniors and masters category, both male and female, will take to the shooting range. At the end of the 72 round ranking arrows – which establish the scoreboard of the direct matches – the individual and team class titles will be assigned. The direct clashes will then be played that will lead to the finals on Sunday 28 August until the assignment of the absolute Italian titles for individuals, teams and mixed teams. The competitions foresee a total of 229 registered for the compound and 359 registered for the recurve, in addition to the presence of 342 accredited technicians between compound and Olympic representing 159 companies.


Defending the absolute Italian title won last year in Bergamo will be Marco Bruno in the compound division, winning in the final over Elia Fregnan, and the blue Andrea Nicole Moccia, who shoots for the home team of Torresin, recently winner of the individual bronze at the European Youth Championships in Lilleshall (Gbr) and the team title with a world record. The young Moccia last year had the better of the outgoing champion, the Paralympic athlete, Maria Andrea Virgilio. And, also on this occasion, the best athletes of the national para-archery will play the Italian titles like the “able-bodied”.

Defending the tricolor in the curved division will be instead the Olympian Mauro Nespoli who won the play-off on the blue Francesco Poerio Piterà and Vanessa Landi, who in Bergamo overtook the Paralympic champion Elisabetta Mijno, fresh from the victory of the European para -archery won in Rome in early August.
As for the team titles, from this year the direct clashes of the trio and mixed teams will be restored, not played last year in Bergamo due to the new technical regulation due to Covid-19. The tricolors of 2021 had in fact been assigned taking into account the scores obtained by the teams at the end of the ranking round which had seen the victory in the men’s compound of Kappa Kosmos Rovereto, in the female the Compagnia Arcieri Cormons and in the mixed the Arcieri Montalcino. In the recurve, the Iuvenilia Archers won among the men and the Alpine Archers among the women.


On August 25th, athletes from all over Italy will arrive for accreditation and to probe the competition field with test shots: the Opening Ceremony at Palazzo Foscolo is then scheduled at 6.30 pm. On Friday 26th August we will take the field at the Opitergium Stadium for the 72 ranking round arrows of the youth classes of the recurvo and of all the compounds. The assignment of class titles will continue on the morning of Saturday 27 August for the juniors, seniors and masters of the Olympic arc, while in the early afternoon the individual clashes will be held from the round of 16 to the semifinals, followed by the team and mixed team heats from the quarterfinals. until the semifinals.
Sunday 28 August, from 9.30 am the start of the finals hosted in Piazza Grande, in the heart of the city: it begins with the challenges for the mixed team title of the students of the recurvo and, to follow, the challenges of the compound valid for the absolute podiums team and mixed; from about 11.30, again for the compound, all the individual challenges for the absolute male and female. In the afternoon, from 2 pm, the start of the finals of the recurvo: we start with the mixed junior team and the absolute mixed, to follow the races for the women’s and men’s Olympic team podium. From 4 pm the conclusion of the event with the individual finals that assign the absolute titles recurvo female and male. The closing ceremony is scheduled for 18.00.


The competition will be broadcast in live streaming on YouArco, the Federation’s youtube channel and simultaneously on the Twitch, Facebook and Twitter social profiles. A summary of Sunday’s finals will be broadcast on Rai Sport in the days following the race.
