The King of the Bird archery competition crowned a novice archer on Saturday evening in Le Puy-en-Velay. Among children, the prince is a young 11-year-old Ponot.
The lesson of the day is that you can be King of the Bird without having practiced for years. Saturday evening, in the lists of the place du Breuil, an Avignonnais won the competition to everyone’s surprise. A novice in the field, he got the better of seasoned archers.
He followed the advice to the letter
Lénaïc Roussel, 37, comes from Saint-Saturnin-lès-Avignon (Vaucluse). In a relationship with Chloé, a native of Lyon who knew the King of the Bird celebrations in Puy-en-Velay, he let himself be drawn into the Renaissance universe.
And a friend entered him into the contest. “A gentleman explained it to me well, I followed his advice”, says this responsible for naturalist studies with mammals, in particular the bat, passionate about ski touring and mountaineering.
“I stayed relaxed and I got a little lucky. It’s all still a game even if I understood correctly, I have a few obligations to fulfill with this victory…”
7th in 2021, 1st in 2022
Among the children, Loris Dupont, 11, is the big winner. At college in Saugues, he has been practicing archery for a year at the Archers du Velay. In 2021, he finished 7th.
