Angry Leclerc: It was frustrating. Disgruntled fans booed Verstappen

Formula 1 driver Charles Leclerc was very disappointed with the second place in the Italian Grand Prix. He wanted to triumph on the circuit that is the home of his Ferrari team. In addition, he had a good start to the Grand Prix in Monza, starting from pole position and guarding the lead. After one of the pit stops, however, he fell to second place, and when the safety car came out on the track at the end, there was no room left for the Monaco driver to attack the first Verstappen, who replaced him in the lead. The fans then whistled at the winning Dutchman.

Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix was interesting in many ways. A number of drivers, including Max Verstappen, started the race from places other than where they started in qualifying due to technical component changes and penalties. Dutchman Nyck de Vries made his racing debut in Formula 1, and the end of the Grand Prix was affected by difficulties clearing the car of Daniel Ricciardo, whose engine stopped working.

Yellow flags were displayed on the circuit and a safety car came onto the track, circling in front of the cars until the end of the race. Charles Leclerc, who won pole position and held first place for a long time, but later fell to second behind Max Verstappen and could no longer try to attack the Dutchman because of the safety car.

That’s why the Monaco driver was very upset after reaching the finish line. He almost didn’t even talk to his team, which prepared a pitstop plan for him and perhaps partially deprived him of the triumph. While Verstappen only pitted twice, Leclerc went to the mechanics three times, costing him valuable seconds.

The ending was frustrating, I wish we could have raced a bit more,” said the Ferrari team competitor according to Eurosport. “Unfortunately we were second because of what happened before,” he added.

He was mainly annoyed by the fact that he could not win in front of the tifosi, rock fans, who were thousands on the home track. It’s a shame, but I gave it my all. I wish I could have won in front of the amazing fans, but I just couldn’t,” he let himself be heard. The fans themselves expressed their indignation emphatically. They really booed the winner Max Verstappen.
