A lot of new players, a new trainer, but still the same Ajax. The Dutch charmed once again in the Champions League. Unlike Union, Alfred Schreuder’s team was able to convince against the Scottish Rangers.

Before the season, many question marks circled around Ajax.

The Dutch national champion saw a lot of strong holders leave, including Haller and Antony. And also in the dug-out there was a changing of the guard. Analysts feared a transition year.

But Alfred Schreuder just continued in the Netherlands with what he had shown in Bruges: winning. The Dutch superpower started the competition 15 out of 15, and immediately convinced in the Champions League tonight.

Against the Rangers, the tormentor of Union, it secured itself before the break of victory. A buffalo punch from Edson Alvarez after 17 minutes was the harbinger of an easy evening for our northern neighbors.

On the half hour, Steven Berghuis and Mohammed Kudus once again accelerated the pace. The duo scored twice in as many minutes.

That other Steven, man-in-form Steven Bergwijn, provided the icing on the cake at the end of the game, and so let Antony – who moved to United – forget for a while.

That took a lot of effort, though. The Dutch winger celebrated so exuberantly that he had to be replaced with an injury.
