The NBA has decided to permanently remove number 6 from the championship. A way of paying homage to Bill Russell, basketball legend who died during the summer. On the other hand, players who already wore the 6 before this decision are authorized to keep it for the moment. Which includes LeBron James but also Alex Caruso. Except that the latter wanted to change the number precisely to respect Russell. The league refused. Why ? Because he sells too many jerseys.
Caruso said he looked into changing jersey No. 6, but NBA said no … top 75 in jersey sales.

Again, this shows some limitations. The NBA could have paid an even bigger tribute to Bill Russell by resuming his fight. She decided to force the franchises to withdraw the 6. And when a player is willing to do so, she refuses to maintain her business. Not surprising, of course. But it’s a pity.
Should Bill Russell’s #6 really be removed? Yes of course
