Young USC Roura footballer dies in training from cardiorespiratory arrest

A bereaved family and football club after the tragic death of a young footballer last night in Roura. Djouby Laura was in training when he fell ill. Despite the efforts of firefighters and doctors, he died of cardiopulmonary arrest.


A bereaved family and football club after the tragic death of a young footballer last night in Roura. Djouby Laura was in training when he fell ill. Despite the efforts of firefighters and doctors, he died of cardiopulmonary arrest. Cardiorespiratory arrest (CA) is an electrical problem that manifests as an extremely fast and irregular heartbeat : this is ventricular fibrillation (lower chamber of the heart). During fibrillation, the anarchic contraction of the heart no longer allows blood to be pumped properly. The drama took place at the Roura football stadium between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Djouby Laura had just turned 20 on August 3. He had been playing for the Roura club since the age of 12 and had become one of the leaders of the senior team.

A psychological unit will be set up by the club and the town hall of Roura to support the friends and teammates of the victim. A doctor from the Samu spoke to the young people last night, some of the U17s (joint training Seniors and U17s), attended the tragedy.

The president of USC Roura and the coach visited Djoubi’s mother this morning, at Chemin Mogès in Matoury where a large part of the Roura football team lives.

He is a young person trained at USC Roura, within the club, since the age of 12. This year it was one of the pillars, one of the leaders of the senior group. He was working quietly and last night this tragic accident. He was with all his friends from the Mogès district. We’re in shock, it’s really tragic, we’re still in shock, it’s like a son.
