Yankees get Harrison Bader; Cardinals to Jordan MontgomerySeventh Inning

New York, USA /

Los Yankees acquired to center fielderGold Glove winner, Harrison Bader in a trade with the St. Louis Cardinals for left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery moments before the trade deadline on Tuesday, August 2, a surprising deal aimed at improving the defense on two teams contending to make the playoffs this 2022 season of the Major League Baseball (MLB).

Bader, a speedy 28-year-old from New York State, hasn’t played since June 26 because of plantar fasciitis in his right foot.

When I come back, I’d probably play center field in a move that would put Aaron Judge back at right and see Aaron Hicks at left, with Giancarlo Stanton as designated hitter.

New York traded strikeout-prone outfielder Joey Gallo to the Los Angeles Dodgers early Tuesday for minor league right-hander Clayton Beeter.

Montgomery was 3-3 with a 3.69 ERA in 21 starts, but was 0-2 with a 5.36 ERA in his last eight starts. His departure came a day after Frankie Montas was acquired from Oakland to join Gerrit Cole, Nestor Cortes and Jameson Taillon in the rotation.

Domingo Germán is likely to remain in the rotation in the absence of Luis Severino, who will be out until at least mid-September with a right latissimus dorsi strain.
