Why the RSCA must pass a round in WCL against Lodz

A short week after their successful entry into the Super League against Aalst (3-0), RSCA Women are tackling another of their goals: the Women’s Champions League. This Thursday at the municipal stadium of Lodz in Poland, the five-time champions of Belgium face the champions of Poland in the first qualifying round (in the form of a mini-tournament). With three assignments…

1 The 2nd round is a minimum. A year ago, the band of Johan Walem had stumbled in the final of their group at this stage against Osijek. This Croatian frustration, Dave Mattheus and his players want to erase it and now access the next round. A stage that they had already reached a few years ago and which would be a minimum for the Brussels women. “The complication of the preparation is that there are not so many videos of this Lodz teamsays Dave Mattheus. We are basing ourselves on videos from last season and we hope that will be confirmed. In this group 5, it is perhaps the strongest opponent.”

To get out of the first round, it will be necessary to chain two victories in a few days: against Lodz and in the group final on Sunday.

2 A nice poster possible in the next round. They would then arrive in the second round before dreaming of the group stage which is the objective of all the clubs. If round 1 is, on paper, within reach of the Brussels group, the group stage mission could be more complicated given the possible opponents. “Depending on the draw, we could end up with Juventus or Twente.smiles the coach. But before thinking about this possible gala match, we have to do the work in Poland.”

3 Improve the Belgian coefficient. In Belgium, the other clubs will also be attentive to the results of the RSCA in the Champions League, the only European women’s competition. For the moment, only one European ticket is distributed in Belgium, little to its advantage in the European ranking. The Super League only points to 25th place, behind Bosnia, Cyprus or even Kazakhstan (which even has two representatives). Chaining the victories would help to advance the national championship and see it better represented on the European scene.
