Where will Donovan Mitchell be traded? The New York Knicks still have an advantage over the Miami Heat, Brooklyn Nets and other teams in negotiations

Now what Kevin Durant y Brooklyn Nets resolved (at least temporarily) their differences and plan to stay together, the eyes of the NBA community have shifted to Donovan Mitchell y Utah Jazz.

Utah firmly entered a rebuilding phase when it sent Rudy Gobert to Minnesota in a major trade earlier this market. That deal seemed to be a Precursor to a Mitchell tradebut with the start of the 2022-2023 season fast approaching, the three-time All-Star hasn’t left Salt Lake City yet.

It has long been assumed that New York Knicks will acquire the services of Mitchell, as they have been linked to the New York native since mid-July. However, Tony Jones of The Athletic reported Thursday that a trade between the Knicks and the Jazz is not “imminent”and that Utah huh “started to receive offers from other teams”.

While this is an interesting part of the Mitchell conversation, Knicks fans shouldn’t be too concerned. New York remains the team to beat in this matter.

Why are the New York Knicks still the favorite to get Donovan Mitchell?

The Jazz have received multiple offers from teams other than the Knicks, which they consider “intriguing and worth pursuing”according to Jones, who also reported that Mitchell’s wish list includes the Knicks, Brooklyn Nets and Miami Heat (To be clear, Mitchell hasn’t formally requested a trade; those are just his preferred teams if Utah decides to trade him.)

New York has a significant advantage over Brooklyn and Miami in terms of business assets. The Knicks have talented young players (RJ Barrett, Quentin Grimes and Obi Toppin) and can send up to eight future first-round picks (four of their own and four from other teams).

There’s also specific complications with potential deals involving Nets and Heat. Brooklyn can’t have Mitchell and Ben Simmons on the team at the same time because of NBA rules regarding players signing maximum extensions as rookies. Apparently, Utah has asked Miami to bring in a third team. why the Jazz don’t think the Florida guys can offer enough compensation on your own.

Charlotte Hornets y Washington Wizards have also come forward as suitors for Mitchell, and there’s always a chance another team will accelerate their search for Mitchell (Cleveland Cavaliers reportedly “touched base” with the Utah Jazz over a Mitchell trade, but have since have been removed from the equation). However, any other directive would have struggling to get past the Knicks’ best package.

It makes sense for Utah to enter into talks with other teams to raise the asking price for Mitchell, but at this point in the market, New York remains the most logical destination for the 25-year-old star.
