If Pauleta is remembered, still vividly, as a legend of Paris Saint-Germain, let’s not forget in these complicated times for Bordeaux that it was at the Girondins that the Portuguese striker revealed himself in France.

From his first match with Bordeaux, in 2000, Pauleta had scored a hat-trick on the field of Nantes (0-5) the season of the last coronation of the Canaries. We could then imagine a flash in the pan, as often in such circumstances… We know what happened next. Before scoring 109 goals in the PSG jersey, from 2003 to 2008, Pauleta had scored 91 in three years with the Girondins. He also judges his scissor in the final of the Coupe de la Ligue 2002, against Lorient (3-0), as the best goal of his career (in an interview recently granted to So Foot). But it was in Paris that he remained the club’s ambassador, which notably led him to open the first Paris Saint-Germain academy in Portugal in 2017.

The capital club also presented him with a trophy before PSG – OM in April, for having precisely exceeded a hundred achievements under his colors. But for ten years, almost in the wake of his retirement as a player, Pauleta has returned to live in Lisbon. His main occupation is in connection with the Portuguese Federation, where he occupies an important position since he is director of training (as well as vice-president) and thus accompanies all the selections of young people, from the U17s to the Hopes. He never wanted to become a coach and had explained it again three years ago: “I like what I do, and I want to have time to be with my family and my children. I am happy with this life. I’m not going to say never, you don’t know in life… But for the moment, that’s not what I want.”
