Vietnamese chess team first in regional Paralympic Games

Jakarta (VNA) The Vietnamese chess team ranks first in the XI Southeast Asian Paralympic Games (ASEAN Para Games) so far with 10 gold medals, surpassing the goal set in the event three times.

In the final of the rapid chess modality that took place the day before, the chess players of the Indochinese nation competed in an impressive way, obtaining six gold, three silver and three bronze medals.

According to Le Hien Thuc, coach of the group, his students still have a chance to win more gold medals in the final match of the blitz category that will take place today, the last day of competition (August 5) for this sport.

The delegation of Vietnam occupied until Thursday the third place in the medal table of the XI Paralympic Games Southeast Asia (ASEAN Para Games) after four days of competition with 31 gold, 33 silver and 22 bronze medals.

The Vietnamese delegation, made up of 153 members, including 120 athletes, participates in competitions in athletics, swimming, weightlifting, chess, badminton, table tennis, judo and archery.

The ASEAN Para Games 11, which takes place from July 30 to August 6 in the city of Surakarta, in the Indonesian province of Central Java, has 14 sports with 907 contents and the participation of 1,286 athletes./.
