A terrible incident occurred during an amateur football match in Argentina. During the match between Garmense and Deportivo Independecia, one of the players attacked the referee. The footballer was subsequently arrested for his act.
Referee Dalma Magali Cortadi was in charge of the duel of the regional Argentinian league, which, however, took a turn for the worse. And that at the moment when the 30-year-old referee awarded one yellow and one red card.
Garmense footballer Cristian Tironé received the red card, who could not keep his nerves in check. The 34-year-old player ran up to the referee from behind and knocked her to the turf with his fist. In addition, the match itself had to be ended prematurely and the referee was taken to the hospital, where subsequent examinations did not show any serious injuries.
Faccording to the newspaper La Nación, the defender Tironé was arrested right on the pitch by police officers.
The Garmense club also commented on the incident later: “The club expresses its solidarity with the referee who was attacked and apologizes. At the same time, it is committed to continue working to eradicate violence in all its forms and to train footballers with values such as discipline, camaraderie, determination, and especially respect and tolerance,” writes the Argentine club.
