Video games to enjoy with the family this summer

Adventures, platforms and indoor sports to share

In a summer with record temperatures, many will choose to take refuge from the heat under the cover of air conditioning, command at the ready. Including parents and children, who have numerous proposals designed for the whole family on the different platforms.

We have selected the following ten essentials, most of them designed to be played with several hands:

Mario Strikers Battle League: The video game’s most famous plumber is back at football under his own wacky rules. In addition to online matches, the latest from Next Level Games makes local play possible for anyone who dares to grab the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con.

Nintendo Switch Sports: The hybrid of the Japanese multinational recovers one of the greatest successes of the video game. This sequel to Wii Sports invites us to get up from the sofa to practice tennis, bowling, badminton, soccer, volleyball and ‘chambara’ (a kind of combat with swords).

Stray: Available for PlayStation and compatible, the latest from Annapurna Interactive puts us in the shoes of a disoriented feline, who must collaborate with the vestiges of human civilization (his robots) to find his way back home. A precious and entertaining adventure with a message.

Sonic Origins: Adults and children will enjoy the tribute for the 31st anniversary of the SEGA mascot. The first remembering and the second discovering the very fast blue hedgehog. The compilation (available for all platforms) includes the three original installments and the outstanding ‘Sonic CD’.

Rabbids: Party of Legends: Ubisoft’s wacky rabbits return in a fun compendium of mini-games that no one will be disgusted by; not even the least experienced with video games. It supports up to four users in local mode and offers motion controls on Nintendo Switch.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge: Arcade me vs. the neighborhood classics return in this never-before-seen sequel starring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles themselves. Up to six players can deal thumps in unison.

Tunic: An adventure to share between parents and children (the former can guide their offspring when they don’t know how to move forward). Its clear inspiration in the two-dimensional installments of The Legend of Zelda and the charming art style of the game make it one of the essentials of the year.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land: Nintendo’s pink wolverine stars in his first fully three-dimensional platforming epic, with cooperative play options and endless secrets scattered throughout its levels. All a success for the summer dead times.

Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series: Bandai Namco brings back the anthropomorphic cat that made a name for itself on PlayStation. This remaster includes its two main iterations: ‘Klonoa: Door to Phantomile’ and ‘Klonoa 2: Lunatea’s Veil’, which can also be played four-handed.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga: LEGO games are already a regular when it comes to parent-child games. The great attraction of this installment is to go through the three trilogies of the Skywalker saga, from the mythical chapter IV to the controversial ‘Rise’, going through the chronological origins of the franchise.
