For the second year in a row, FC Twente Women failed to reach the next round of the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Again Benfica was too strong for the Tukkers (2-1 defeat).
That hits hard at FC Twente Women. This is also the case with Daphne van Domselaar. “No Champions League for two years, that’s just shit. It sucks, it’s sour. It’s also so fast. You just expect to progress in such a tournament,” she says at RTV Oost .
“Then this is much too fast,” continues the goalkeeper, who conceded two goals. “We were just not in a good position. We let them play through the lines way too much, especially in the middle. Then we just get beaten.”

She continues: “The first goal was not well defended. That’s just not good. The second goal, that’s a sour one. I didn’t see the ball coming. We just have to defend better.”
Van Domselaar himself does not want to speak of a blunder at the 2-0. “I didn’t see the ball coming, I got the most out of it. It doesn’t bother me that much,” said the goalkeeper, who saw that there was more to it at FC Twente Women.
“Those two moments were there, but for the rest we really had and created the most opportunities. There was more in it. No, we certainly do not become best friends with them. We come across Benfica a little too often and then also in the wrong way. That is sour,” concludes Van Domselaar.
