Good news for the Ravachol Pontevedra Badminton Club First Team, which last Monday signed the renewal of two present and future players, the Fernández brothers. In the case of Gabriel, he reached the First Team in the 19/20 season at only 17 years old as an option for the future, and with this renewal he will complete his fourth season as a red and black. Since his arrival, Gabriel has played 25 games with the Ravachol jersey, being one of the architects of the promotion to the Honor Division in the 2019/2020 season, and of remaining in the 20/21 and 21/22 seasons. Already in the final phase of recovery, after the heart problems that took him off the courts in the final stretch of the league, he will start training as soon as the doctors give him the go-ahead, predictably before the end of the summer, so its set-up will still take a few months. Jacobo, for his part, will play his second season in the national badminton elite at Ravachol, after having played 7 matches during 21/22, mainly due to the injuries that have hampered his continuity, injuries that are expected to have been left behind after to undergo a knee operation from which he will soon be recovered. The current Spanish junior champion, both in the individual and in the men’s doubles, will continue with a scholarship at the high-performance center in Madrid, and is running as one of the team’s references for the league season, which will begin in September. “I am very happy to continue at Ravachol for another year, and looking forward to training to help the team” commented Gabriel. “It is going to be a very tough season, but we will fight to continue being among the 10 best in Spain and leave the name of Pontevedra and Galicia high” Jacobo concluded. WITHDRAWALS On the other hand, the sports management has announced the withdrawal of Ania Setién, who will leave the team after two seasons, heading to Valencia. Ravachol’s sports director, Jesús Pereiro, was very satisfied with the renewals: “The continuity of Gabi and Jacobo was a priority for us, as soon as they recover from their respective injuries they will be important players within the team, in addition to the personal part , which in clubs like ours is something to take into account, we are talking about two players who have prioritized Pontevedra over large budgets and offers, and that is always appreciated” Regarding Setién’s withdrawal, Pereiro commented that “The withdrawal Ania affects us especially, our strength last season was precisely the girls, and now we need to find a guaranteed player to replace her.The reasons for the loss have been purely economic, since, unfortunately, we have not been able to compete against the big league budgets. We wish him the best of luck in his new stage.”
